Chuck Norris
Charles (Chuck) Norris has been part of the Nelnet organization for more than 20 years. During this time, Chuck helped start Infovisa, a trust software company located in Charlotte, N.C., and he currently sits on its board. In addition, Chuck is one of the founders of Nelnet Capital, LLC, a registered Broker/Dealer located in Lincoln, Nebraska. Prior to joining Nelnet, Chuck was a Financial Analyst for Merrill Lynch in New York City. Chuck also worked for Wilshire Associates located in Santa Monica, Calif.
Chuck was born and raised in Lincoln where he and his wife, Jean, live with their two children. Chuck has a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
Nancy Keegan
Nancy Keegan, an Omaha native, received a chemical and petroleum refining engineering degree from Colorado School of Mines and an MBA from Harvard Business School. She began her career as a plant foreman and process engineer for the Exploration and Producing Division of Mobil Corporation. Nancy has served as a vice president at Simmons & Company, was the managing director of Crosshill Financial Group, and is the co-founder, director and chief financial officer of Prestwick Companies, Inc. She is currently a private investor and corporate financial consultant.
Nancy currently is serving as Chair of the Board of Directors of the University of Nebraska Foundation and as a member of the foundation’s Campaign for Nebraska Executive Committee. She is the past chair of the foundation’s Finance Committee and has been a foundation trustee since 2001.
Nancy is an avid equestrian. She and her husband, Don Voelte, are the owners of Keegan Quarter Horses, which provides hunt seat and western pleasure horses for the show ring.
Michael Hays
Mike has served as the CEO of National Research Corporation since he founded the company in 1981. He served as President from 1981-2004 and was appointed President again in July 2008. Mike owns more than 70% of the company.
His annual letter to shareholders in 2009 stated, “In my view, the real problem is that most CEOs do not own a meaningful stake in the company they run. They are not shareholders to a significant degree and, consequently, unwavering alignment of incentives does not exist. … Perhaps it's time for shareholders to require the CEOs of companies in which they invest to personally have a major skin in the game."
Prior to founding National Research Corporation, he served as Vice President and Director of SRI Research (now The Gallup Organization).
Mark A. Scudder
Mark is the President of Scudder Law Firm. He represents public and private companies in a wide range of strategic issues and transactions, including public and private securities offerings, mergers and acquisitions, corporate law and governance, and stockholder communications.
Mark currently serves as a director for publicly traded Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (NYSE: GWR). He also has served as a director of Knight Transportation, Inc. (NYSE: KNX) from 1999 to 2007, a director of Covenant Transport, Inc. (Nasdaq: CVTI) from 1994 to 2007, a founding director of a national bank, and as a director of a venture capital-backed strategic sourcing and e-procurement company. Mark has taught Corporate Mergers and Acquisitions as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Nebraska College of Law.
Mark was born and raised in Lincoln where he and his wife, Alison, live with their daughter. Mark received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1988, where he was an Executive Editor of the Virginia Journal of International Law. He previously graduated from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln in 1985.
Stephen J. George, CFA
Stephen is the Co-Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Capricorn Investment Group, LLC, a private investment firm with approximately $5 billion under management. Since its founding in early 2002, Stephen has led overall investment strategy, capital allocation, global equity investments, risk management, and development of the Firm.
Currently, he is focused on the Firm’s investing programs in venture and growth private equity, as well as concentrated and fundamental strategies in the public markets. He has over 20 years of investment experience, across a wide range of investment strategies, private and public investments, and global markets.
Prior to Capricorn, Stephen was the Founder and CEO of Epylon, Inc, a software business that was acquired by Accenture, Inc. He was also a Vice President at Goldman Sachs Group in the investment management division, in the San Francisco and New York offices. Prior to Goldman Sachs, Stephen was a Vice President at Merrill Lynch, in the investment banking group, where he focused on international corporate acquisitions and privatizations, working on transactions in Asia, Latin America, and Europe, including the first Chinese company to go public on the New York Stock Exchange in the early 1990s. He began his professional career with Bankers Trust Company in the merchant banking group.
Stephen received a BA with honors from Cornell University and is a CFA Charterholder. As a Nebraska native, Stephen and his wife, Annika and four children live in Omaha, Nebraska and he splits time between Capricorn’s offices.
